Congresswoman Cheney's Statement on Omnibus Spending Vote
Today, Congresswoman Liz Cheney (WY-AL), a member of the Armed Services, Natural Resources and Rules Committees, released the following statement on her vote against the omnibus spending agreement:
"In the aftermath of eight years of Obama-era policies, the United States military is facing a potentially devastating readiness, manpower and modernization crisis. At the same time, threats to our security are grave and growing. For too long, we have failed to provide our men and women in uniform with the resources they need to defend the nation. President Trump requested $30 billion in supplemental funding to begin to undo the damage. Though the actual supplemental funding needed was significantly higher, the omnibus spending bill provided only $15 billion, half the amount requested by the President. I could not support legislation that provided wholly inadequate funding to begin to rebuild America's military," Cheney said.
"As elected representatives of the American people," Cheney noted, "we have no more important or sacred obligation than providing for the common defense. If we fail to provide the resources necessary to defend our nation, nothing else we do will matter."
