Congressman Cheney Votes to Protect American Citizens
For Immediate Release:
Washington D.C. - Congressman Liz Cheney (WY-AL) released the following statement today following passage of the No Sanctuary for Criminals Act and Kate’s Law.
“I was proud to support the No Sanctuary for Criminals Act and Kate’s Law as they passed the House today. We are a nation of laws and we must ensure we enforce those laws. H.R. 3003 will ensure that cities and states are held to account for defying federal immigration laws and H.R. 3004 will enhance prison sentences for illegal aliens who have previously committed crimes and then illegally re-enter our country. No family should ever have to face the tragedy Kate Steinle's family has. I look forward to continued work with my colleagues in the House to address these problems and strengthen our immigration system.”
Kate’s Law (H.R. 3004) enhances maximum prison sentences for illegal immigrants who re-enter our country. The law is named after Kate Steinle, a young woman in San Francisco killed by an illegal immigrant who had already been deported multiple times.
No Sanctuary for Criminals Act (H.R. 3003) ensures that American taxpayers are not subsidizing cities and states that work to restrict compliance with federal immigration laws and cooperation with federal immigration enforcement officials. Sarah and Grant’s Law which is named after Sarah Root and Grant Ronnebeck who were both killed by unlawful immigrants is also included in H.R. 3003. This law guarantees that an illegal alien is to be detained after they are arrested or charged for a crime that causes serious injury or death.
