Cheney: Congress, Administration Must Stand in Support of Fossil Fuel Industry & Free Markets
For Immediate Release:
Washington D.C.- Congressman Liz Cheney (WY-AL) released the following statement today in response to West Virginia Governor Justice's request for $4.5 billion in taxpayer subsidies to pay utilities to use Appalachian mined coal instead of higher quality more cost effective Wyoming coal:
“Wyoming Powder River Basin coal is the best in the world. I agree that utilizing our coal is a matter of national security and ensures the reliability of the power grid. A policy that uses taxpayer dollars to advantage eastern coal over our western coal does not serve that purpose. Such a policy would be flat wrong, unjust, bad economic policy, and would be adopting the worse tactics of the Obama era when the government wasted billions of taxpayer dollars attempting to pick winners and losers and undermine the market. What we need is continued regulatory and other relief by Congress and President Trump in support of our fossil fuel industry and our free markets."
