This week the House Natural Resources Committee held a hearing on liquefied natural gas exports and their geopolitical consequences.Last year the U.S. became a net exporter of natural gas for the first time since 1957 and it’s key that our permitting process, export terminals, and infrastructure are improved to facilitate production of this valuable resources.

Senators Enzi, Barrasso and I met with VA secretary Shulkin this week regarding the Cheyenne VA’s complexity level and its potential change. Secretary Shulkin assured us that the Cheyenne VA’s services and funding will remain the same regardless of complexity level.

The Rules Committee reviewed and voted on several pieces of legislation this week, most importantly the 2018 Budget Act. We also, voted on H.R. 772 the Common Sense Nutrition Disclosure Act of 2017, H.R. 1153 the Mortgage Choice Act of 2017, and H.R. 4471 the Small Bank Holding Company Relief Act.

This week President Trump gave his first official State of the Union address. He laid out a bold agenda for American prosperity and security at home and abroad. Building on the economic success of the first year of the Trump administration, the President spoke about the steps necessary to ensure expanded opportunity and hope for all Americans. He showed resolve in confronting and defeating America's enemies with a resounding commitment to securing our borders, rebuilding our military, ending sequestration, and maintaining armed forces that are second to none. The President's speech was an impressive and inspiring call to action.

Congress began its 2018 session this week. On my way to DC, I was honored to be able to participate in the Purple Heart ceremony for Sgt Douglas Smits at Warren AFB in Cheyenne. Sgt Smits was wounded during a deployment in Afghanistan's Kandahar province. I was proud to be able to thank him and his family in person for their service and sacrifice for our nation.

This week in the Natural Resources Committee, the members of the Subcommittee on Energy and Mineral Resources held an oversight hearing to examine the consequence of America’s growing dependence on foreign minerals, such as uranium.

This week, the House passed H.R. 38, the Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act, a bill I am proud to cosponsor. This legislation will ensure that the Second Amendment rights of law-abiding folks in Wyoming will not be infringed upon when they cross state lines.

This week the House Natural Resources Committee reviewed, voted on, and passed H.R. 1778, a bill I introduced earlier this year. H.R. 1778 ensures there will be no future moratorium on coal leasing on federal lands without approval from the House and Senate. Coal is a national treasure and for far too long President Obama's war on coal did real damage to the livelihoods of the people and communities in our state. I'm proud this legislation passed the Natural Resources Committee so we can begin to undo that damage brought upon by burdensome Obama-era energy policies.

This week the House and Senate both passed the bipartisan FY18 National Defense Authorization Act. I was honored to serve as a conferee. I was able to speak on the House Floor and at the Rules Committee, in support of the final NDAA bill and the damage the Budget Control Act has done to our armed forces.
