Washington – House Republican Conference Chair and Wyoming Congresswoman Liz Cheney (R-WY) issued the below statement after voting for the Conference Report of the FY2021 National Defense Authorization Act. Rep. Cheney spoke on the floor in support of the act earlier in the day, and the legislation passed the House this evening by a vote of 335-78-1.
“Congress has no greater duty than providing for the defense of our nation. This National Defense Authorization Act will allow our military to have the resources they need to keep our country safe and counter our adversaries like Russia and China.
“In addition to offering support for our troops and military families, this critical legislation funds the modernization of our nuclear triad and ensures that our forward presence across the globe will bolster our efforts at deterring malign actors from plotting and executing attacks against our nation.
“For 59 consecutive years, the NDAA has passed with broad bipartisan support because members of both parties recognize that funding and support for our military is far too important to allow politics to get in the way. I’m proud that the House is once again continuing that impressive track record with this evening’s vote, and look forward to this strong bill becoming law so that our men and women in uniform are equipped with the tools required to protect our country.”
