Democrats have continued to block legislation that would provide crucial emergency relief to Americans who are suffering from the coronavirus pandemic and economic crisis. They are holding hostage lifesaving aid in order to push their “Green New Deal” agenda. Aid in the Senate bill blocked by Democrats includes funding for:
· Direct payments to the American people
· Small business relief
· Unemployment insurance
· Hospital equipment and resources
· The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention
· Vaccines, therapeutics, diagnostics, and other preparedness needs
· The FEMA Disaster Relief Fund
· The Strategic National Stockpile
· Military resources
· Veterans healthcare
· K-12 education
· Higher education
· Public Transportation Emergency Relief
Democrats are using this emergency legislation to force adoption of some of their most controversial and ideologically driven priorities. Rather than work together to do what’s right at a time of great national emergency, Democrats are trying to exploit this crisis by insisting items like the following be included in the bill:
· Expansive new tax credits for solar and wind energy
· New emissions standards for airlines and requirement of full offset by 2025
· Increased collective bargaining and carve outs for Big Labor
· Required same-day voter registration and early voting
· A bailout for the U.S. Postal Service, for the union pension fund, and for student loans
· Retirement plans for community newspaper employees
· Publication of corporate pay statistics by race and race statistics for all corporate boards
· A requirement for companies receiving assistance to impose job-destroying $15/minimum
· $1 billion “Cash For Clunkers”-style program where government buys planes from airlines
· $1.5 million to study climate change mitigation efforts in civil aviation and aerospace industries
· New burdensome OSHA requirements on hospitals
· $1 billion to build on program expanded by President Obama that provides discounted phone
service for low-income consumers
In the face of a global health crisis and a global economic crisis, Democrat leaders have proven that they can’t be trusted to put the priorities of the American people first.
The American people deserve action now. Lives and our economy are on the line. It is indefensible that Speaker Pelosi and Leader Schumer are blocking emergency aid in order to push a political agenda.
A Reminder for Wyoming Small Businesses:
Wyoming small businesses impacted by coronavirus have received final federal approval to seek loans up to $2 million as part of the Small Business Administration’s (SBA) Economic Injury Disaster Loan program.
SBA has added all 23 Wyoming counties to it’s list of designated “economic disaster” regions eligible for small business disaster loan assistance.
If you are a Wyoming small business owner and have been negatively impacted by coronavirus, the SBA’s Federal Disaster Loan program can provide you with loans to help overcome the temporary loss of revenue you might be experiencing.
The loan amount will be based on actual economic injury and financial needs, so business owners should gather items such as financial statements, tax returns, and revenue projections to prepare for a loan request.
