Washington – During this morning’s House Republican leadership press conference, Wyoming Congresswoman and House GOP Conference Chair Liz Cheney (R-WY) expressed support for the people of Iran as they courageously protest against their malign regime, and she called out Speaker Pelosi for playing politics with impeachment. Watch the video here, and see the transcript below:
REP. LIZ CHENEY: As we gather this morning, we’re still obviously watching closely what’s unfolding on the streets of Iran, unbelievably courageous demonstrations underway. The Iranian people very clearly understand the damage that their own regime is doing around the world, the damage their regime is doing to the nation of Iran and taking to the streets to protest, putting their lives at risk, literally, and we all stand strongly with the people of Iran.
We’re also watching—we anticipate that the Speaker will finally bring a vote to the floor to name managers for the articles of impeachment. Obviously after saying for months and months that it was urgent the President be impeached, the Speaker of the House then sat on the articles for many, many weeks. It’s unclear exactly what she believes she accomplished by it. We seem to be in exactly the same situation we were in previously except that we’ve now had this tremendous delay, which means that important pieces of work, like USMCA, which obviously the House has passed which we need to have passed in the Senate, will not be taken up because the Senate will now be focused on the impeachment trial. So, we’re going to continue to focus on what’s necessary to make sure we’re upholding our oath to the Constitution and to make sure that we’re continuing to work on the issues that matter to the American people.
