Washington D.C. – Wyoming Congresswoman and House GOP Conference Chair Liz Cheney (R-WY) released the following statement after the White House’s released a letter sent to House Democrats regarding their attempts to overturn the results of the 2016 election by impeaching the President.

“From day one, House Democrats have wanted to impeach this President and they’ve proven that they’ll ignore the facts and trample over constitutional protections to achieve this long-held goal. Democrats are conducting a sham process by selectively leaking misleading excerpts from testimony, refusing to follow House precedent, and ignoring their obligation to hold a vote if they want to establish a formal impeachment inquiry.

“Today’s letter makes clear how political Speaker Pelosi and Chairman Schiff’s efforts have become. They want to allow this process to play out entirely behind closed doors with no voice for the minority, no fairness and no transparency for the American people.

“We have real issues for Congress to address. President Trump has led to strengthen our economy, create jobs, and shift power from Washington, DC to the American people. Instead of working with him on this agenda, Democrats want to relitigate the 2016 election because they can’t get over the fact that he won, and can’t accept that his agenda is benefitting the country.”
