Washington – Wyoming Congresswoman and House GOP Conference Chair Liz Cheney (R-WY) issued the following statement after the Senate voted by a margin of 90-8 to confirm Mark Esper to serve as Secretary of Defense:

“Mark Esper is a patriot and friend who has devoted many years of service to this great nation. I have no doubt that as Defense Secretary he will be a steadfast leader for our men and women in uniform. 

“Secretary Esper has proven his determination to safeguard American supremacy and power—both of which are all the more vital today as our country faces significant threats from terror groups, rogue regimes, and great powers. I look forward to working with Secretary Esper to continue the progress made under President Trump to rebuild our military and restore America’s power.”
