Update
In Wyoming we have a proud military tradition. In fact, our state has one of the highest percentages of residents who are veterans in the country. On Memorial Day, we paused to pay tribute to the servicemen and women who gave their last full measure of devotion and made the ultimate sacrifice so that we may live free.
Friends,
On Tuesday, I also had the honor of joining Governor Mark Gordon and Major General Greg Porter at a deployment ceremony in Afton for members of the Wyoming National Guard from Charlie Company, 1st Battalion, 279th Infantry Regiment, who are deploying on a NATO mission to Kosovo. Their mission critical for regional stability, supporting our allies, and ensuring the long-term safety and security of our nation.
Back in Washington, I voted last week to pass the Setting Every Community Up for Retirement Enhancement Act of 2019, which will make it easier for Americans to save for retirement. Among the changes, this legislation makes it easier for small businesses to set up retirement plans for their employees, gives employers the flexibility to tailor retirement plans to best fit the needs of their employees, and allows Americans to save longer – removing the age limit for contributing to IRAs and increasing the minimum age for required withdrawals from 70.5 to 72. I look forward to my Senate colleagues taking this measure up in the coming weeks.
Additionally, Special Counsel Robert Mueller said on Wednesday that his report speaks for itself, and confirmed what we already knew: there was no collusion and the Justice Department found there was no obstruction. I support the Attorney General’s determination to investigate improper behavior by some at the highest levels of the Obama Justice Department and FBI. We must also ensure we are taking all necessary steps to safeguard our election process from foreign interference. It is long past time for Nancy Pelosi and other Democrats in the House to stop peddling falsehoods about the President and start doing the real work we were all elected to do.
Below is a roundup of other things I’ve done over the past two weeks to continue fighting for our state in Congress.

Congresswoman Liz Cheney
Natural Resources Committee
| Last week, I reintroduced legislation to prevent future federal coal leasing moratoriums like the one implemented by President Obama. The Obama-era federal coal leasing moratorium was not just a war on coal, but a war on Wyoming and our state’s livelihood. No state was harmed more by this reckless action than we were, and we need to make sure that no Administration can ever unilaterally issue a crippling moratorium like this again. Unelected bureaucrats should not have the power to impose policies that disproportionately harm one state. The Obama Administration issued their moratorium without environmental justification, economic analysis, or state input. I am pleased that the Trump Administration moved swiftly to rescind this overreach, and the bill I reintroduced will restore congressional authority and help safeguard our state from politically motivated attacks on coal by any future unfriendly administrations. |
Armed Services Committee
| Members of Congress received a briefing from Secretary of State Pompeo, Acting-Secretary of Defense Shanahan and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Dunford on the ongoing provocations by Iran and the need for increased U.S. presence in the region. I continue to stand by President Trump’s maximum pressure campaign against this rogue regime, including his decision nearly a year ago to withdraw from President Obama’s deeply flawed nuclear deal with Iran. |

Thanks to the Wyoming Society of CPAs for coming in to share how the first year of filing taxes under the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act has been for them and ways to make it go better.

Great to meet with the Wyoming Rural Letter Carriers to talk about postal reform.

Always great catching up with folks from UR Energy and Energy Fuels. I’m looking forward to a timely decision by the White House on trade remedies needed to restore the domestic uranium industry—a critical component of our national security and our electric grid.

It was an honor to speak in front of the Industrial Minerals Association and visit with Wyoming Bentonite and Soda Ash stakeholders. Thanks for all you do for our state and communities.
