Washington – Congresswoman Liz Cheney issued the following statement after the Trump Administration designated Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps as a foreign terrorist organization on Monday.
“Today’s action by the Trump Administration was a historic and necessary step. The designation of Iran’s entire Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps as a foreign terrorist organization cements a stark reality: the regime in Tehran, from its military to its Supreme Leader, is the world’s leading state sponsor of terrorism.
“Terrorism and repression are IRGC trademarks. For decades, the IRGC and its adventurist Quds Force have perpetrated acts of violence at home and abroad. There is no question that the IRGC helps the regime in Tehran hide behind a network of terror proxies, providing these groups with funding, arms, and more. The IRGC has plotted terror attacks on American soil and elsewhere. And they are responsible for the deaths of American servicemembers in Iraq and Afghanistan.
“It is long past time that America recognize the true nature of its adversaries—with Iran and its Revolutionary Guard Corps key among them—and ensure that they are deprived of the resources they need to sustain their illicit pursuits.”
