Update
Friends,
Last week I re-introduced the Ending Duplicative Permitting Act to help relieve the regulatory burden on our Wyoming energy industry. We also had a great week of meetings with Wyoming constituents and worked to stand up for babies with a pro-life press conference at the Capitol. I am continuing to combat the Democrats’ radical agenda. Each week it has become increasingly clear that the Democrats in the House are prioritizing their harmful, socialist legislation above common-sense policies beneficial to our state and the nation.
The Democrats attempted to strip away American’s First Amendment rights by passing HR-1, which should have been called the “Democrat Politician Protection Act.” This legislation is in reality a political play by the left to control what their political opponents can say as they dismantle the authority of states to oversee elections, and violate our Constitutional right to free speech.
Please watch the press conference I took part in with Republican leaders in the House and Senate on the “Democrat Politician Protection Act.”

Additionally, the Democrats forced a vote on a sham resolution that protected Rep. Ilhan Omar’s vile anti-Semitism. Her comments were wrong and she has proven multiple times that she embodies a hate-filled, anti-Semitic, anti-Israel bigotry that has no place in our society. She deserves to be rebuked, by name, and removed from the House Foreign Affairs Committee so that there is no mistake about the values and priorities that the House stands for.
Below is a clip from a press conference I led demanding Rep. Omar be held accountable for her anti-Semitic rhetoric.

This week, I led a press conference to combat infanticide and highlight the Born-Alive Survivors Protection Act, a bill the Democrats have repeatedly refused to put on the floor. It’s our moral obligation to do everything we can to protect the sanctity of life. This should not be a partisan issue and I will continue to work in the House of Representatives and with President Trump to end the Democrats’ horrific, extremist agenda and protect the most vulnerable among us.

On Thursday, I had the honor of speaking on the House floor to congratulate Army First Sergeant and Wyoming native Ian McClure on being named the 2018 Allied Command Operations Military Member of the Year by his commanders at NATO. First Sergeant McClure exemplifies the best our country has to offer and I thank him for his service and his sacrifices for our freedom.

Lastly, in honor of Women’s History Month, I think it’s crucial we remember the role Wyoming played as the leader of the women’s suffrage movement. This year marks the 150th anniversary since Wyoming became the first state to grant women the right to vote, 50 years before the 19th Amendment was ratified.
Please find a complete review of the work I accomplished for Wyoming over the past two weeks.
Sincerely,

Liz Cheney
Member of Congress
Natural Resources Committee
I proudly reintroduced the Ending Duplicative Permitting Act last week. My bill eliminates a repetitive federal permit required by the Bureau of Land Management for oil and gas operations located on private and state land that access non-federal minerals. The state of Wyoming already implements an extensive permitting process for oil and gas operators on state and private land. The BLM requiring an additional permit takes advantage of Wyoming’s checkerboard-land ownership issues, hinders private property rights and discourages future development in our state. My bill will undo this unnecessary federal overreach and rightly restore jurisdiction to the state.
Armed Services Committee
The House Armed Services Committee held several hearings to further understand the national security challenges facing the United States. Last Wednesday, we discussed the need to maintain a strong nuclear deterrent. The following day, we welcomed General Votel, the Commander of U.S. Central Command, General Waldhauser, the Commander of U.S. Africa Command, and Acting Assistant Secretary of Defense for International Security Affairs Wheelbarger to discuss the security challenges they face in their areas of responsibility. In particular we spent a great deal of time discussing the ongoing conflicts in Syria and Afghanistan. This week we received an update from General Scaparrotti, the Commander of U.S. European Command and Supreme Allied Commander for NATO.
Below you can find a clip of my comments regarding the current conditions on the ground in Afghanistan. We must ensure we do not precipitously withdraw US forces, which would only serve to allow our jihadist enemies to claim victory and regain a safe haven from which they can plan and launch attacks against the homeland.

Additionally, at the nuclear deterrence hearing, I had to opportunity to question key witnesses on the need to modernize our nuclear triad. Every hour of every day missileers of the Mighty 90 based at F.E. Warren are on alert to deter our adversaries from launching an attack against our nation. We must fully support this critical mission and ensure we quickly modernize our aging nuclear enterprise. Please watch the video below of my questions during the hearing:
