Update
Friends,
I’ve been hard at work fighting to combat the Democrats’ socialist agenda that takes aim at our western values. I led a press conference with my Republican colleagues to fight the Democrats’ gun control legislation, reintroduced my bill to delist the grizzly bear, voted to protect President Trump’s national emergency declaration to build the border wall, and defended Wyoming from efforts to increase the size of the federal estate.
The gun control legislation introduced by the Democrats last week under the guise of preventing mass gun violence is just another attempt to strip all Americans of their right to own firearms. My first priority regarding any current and future firearm legislation will always be to protect the Second Amendment rights of law-abiding citizens in our state. The new requirements in the Democrat bill would make it illegal to lend a firearm even to a family member and are unenforceable without a federal gun registry. These bills would do nothing to prevent the kind of tragedies we have seen and they are the first step in Democrats’ efforts to implement a federal gun registry.
Additionally, the Democrat-controlled House voted to block President Trump’s national emergency declaration. The president was acting within his constitutional authority to use emergency measures to fund the border wall, which is why I voted against the Democrats’ continued attempt to play political games with the security of our nation.
House Republicans have been busy combating the far-left agenda put forth by Speaker Pelosi. Please find a review of the work I’ve been doing in Congress to protect Wyoming from the damaging and even socialist policies put forth by House Democrats.
Sincerely,

Liz Cheney

I reintroduced the Grizzly Bear State Management Act, which directs the Department of the Interior to re-issue its delisting decision and prohibits further judicial review of this decision. This bill stops the abuse of the court system by environmental extremists, safeguards the scientifically proven delisting determination and puts management of the grizzly bear back in the hands of Wyoming. The decision by a Federal District Court Judge in Montana to re-list the grizzly ignores science and reinstates one-size fits all federal management. I look forward to continuing my work in the House and with President Trump to fight for Wyoming’s statutory right to manage wildlife.
Last week, I voted against the Natural Resources Management Act because it permanently re-authorizes the Land and Water Conservation Fund without any of the crucial reforms the LWCF needs. While the LWCF does some important work in our state, today over half of the funds in the program are used to expand the size of the federal estate. Currently, nearly fifty percent of the land in Wyoming is owned by the federal government and this legislation will open the door for the federal government to acquire more of our lands when we should be reducing, not increasing, federal land holdings. We are also facing a massive backlog for maintenance at our national parks and cannot afford to take on unending new obligations. My number one priority will always be to protect Wyoming from burdensome policies that further restrict access to our land and threaten our Western way of life.
Armed Services Committee
I had the honor of attending the National Desert Storm and Desert Shield Memorial site dedication ceremony. My dad gave an inspiring speech commemorating the fallen service members who bravely gave their lives to ensure our freedom. Operation Desert Storm and Desert Shield took the lives of 383 Americans. It’s important future generations remember and honor those we lost and we continue to educate the public.
I also had the opportunity to meet with General Hyten, the Commander of U.S. Strategic Command. We discussed the importance of modernizing our nation’s nuclear triad and the critical role the men and women serving at F.E. Warren and other missile bases play in maintaining a strong nuclear deterrent for our nation.
