Washington – Congresswoman Liz Cheney voted against the Democrat-backed resolution, titled, “Directing the removal of United States Armed Forces from hostilities in the Republic of Yemen that have not been authorized by Congress.” Her statement:
“This Democrat-backed resolution is nothing more than a political stunt that puts our national security at risk. It’s a blatant attempt to block America’s limited assistance to the Saudi-led coalition, which is fighting Iran-backed Houthi militants in Yemen. Our intelligence sharing and logistics support is intended to help our allies defend against threats to their security, as Tehran continues to arm the Houthis with missiles that threaten innocent people, including Americans.
“The Pentagon has repeatedly said that U.S. forces are not engaged in ‘hostilities’ against the Houthis in Yemen. Despite this fact, the resolution manipulates the War Powers tool and distorts the definition of ‘hostilities’ in a transparent bid to block U.S. support to our allies. I’m proud to stand with my fellow House Republicans and the Trump Administration in opposing this resolution and the dangerous precedent that it would set.”
