Washington, D.C. – Congresswoman Liz Cheney voted in support of the Protect and Serve Act to combat the horrific attacks against our Nation’s brave police officers by allowing federal prosecution of criminals who knowingly harm law enforcement officers.

“I’m proud the House passed the Protect and Serve Act. It’s crucial we protect and support the men and women in uniform who put their lives on the line, serve and protect our citizens and keep the public safe. This legislation is an important measure to combat the increasing and horrific attacks against our nation’s federal, state, and local law enforcement officers who risk their lives daily. Those who knowingly seek to harm police officers should be subject to federal prosecution and this bill ensures that can happen.”

The Protect and Serve Act (H.R. 5698), sponsored by Rep. John Rutherford (R-Fla.), provides a significant deterrent for those seeking to attack police officers. To combat attacks against police officers, which have risen dramatically in recent years, the bill allows for the federal prosecution of those who knowingly assault a law enforcement officer causing serious bodily injury or attempt to do so.
