For Immediate Release:
Washington, D.C. – Congresswoman Liz Cheney (WY-AL), who served as a conferee on the NDAA Conference Committee, Statement on the Passage of FY18 NDAA.
“I was proud to vote for the bipartisan FY18 National Defense Authorization Act, which passed the House today. Congress has no higher obligation or responsibility than to provide the resources necessary for our men and women in uniform to defend the nation. The NDAA will begin to undo the significant damage done over the last eight years by misguided Obama policies and the devastating Budget Control Act. The Funds authorized in this NDAA will enable the United States to modernize our strategic forces, increase and improve our missile defense, and restore other critical readiness gaps. The bill also provides a needed and deserved pay raise for our troops. The final bill also includes critical amendments I added, including an amendment that ensures our current fleet of deployed Intercontinental Ballistic Missiles remains at or is about 400, a crucial leg of the nuclear triad. This FY 2018 NDAA is an important first step towards rebuilding our military. We will not be able to do what must be done, however, until Congress appropriates the funds authorized and fully and completely repeals the Budget Control Act.”
