Washington D.C. – Congresswoman Liz Cheney (WY-AL) released the following statement regarding a Subcommittee on Energy and Mineral Resources hearing on the ONSHORE Act.

“Today the Subcommittee on Energy and Mineral Resources held a legislative hearing on the ONSHORE Act, a bill that would promote energy production in Wyoming and across the country by giving states more authority to manage and develop production of oil and gas on federal lands. A part of the ONSHORE Act is the State Revenue Protection Act, a bill I introduced this year to give Wyoming back the two percent of royalties the federal government has been withholding from our state. These funds are rightly ours and are crucial to our communities and state budget.

The ONSHORE Act also exempts all oil and gas operations on non-federal land from the burdensome federal permitting process regardless of the mineral ownership. Wyoming’s checkerboard land and mineral ownership combined with the practice of horizontal drilling presents a challenge to producers operating on private land who become subject to the Federal Government’s red tape.”
