WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congresswoman Cheney, (WY-AL) issued the following statement in the House Rules Committee Hearing on Wednesday, January 4, 2017, regarding the devastating impact Obama-era regulations have had on Wyoming and the importance of the passage of H.R. 26, the Regulations from the Executive in Need of Scrutiny (REINS) Act.
“This is exactly the kind of thing the people sent us here to do. I know in my own home state of Wyoming; regulations are killing us…. And it’s not just the arbitrary heavy hand of regulation we’ve had to deal with the last 8 years, but its been absolutely targeting…our coal industry. An industry that is crucial to the generation of power all across this nation and that’s certainly crucial to our economy in Wyoming. Many of those who are most hurt by these regulations are people in communities and small towns all across our country.”
This act would require Congress approve any new major rule or regulation coming from the executive branch estimated by the Office of Management and Budget to impact the economy by $100 million or more.
The private sector is the engine of growth for our economy. Federal Government regulations stifle growth and are, in some cases, unconstitutional. The REINS Act is an important step in rescuing our economy and bringing jobs back to Wyoming.
